Nancy is a 54 year old woman currently residing in Benicia, CA. Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. When Nancy heard of her diagnosis she immediately started researching about treatments, surgeries and started the long process of doctor appointment after doctor appointment. She met with an oncologist and expressed her concern about doing chemotherapy. She told her doctor about the research she had done and told him that she had made a decision to not partake in the treatment. Her doctor scoffed at her concerns and losing patience, looked her straight in the face and said “it’s either chemo or death.” Nancy was taken back by his comment and being in such a fragile state of newly diagnosed cancer and scared for her life, she chose chemo.
The affect that chemo therapy, radiation and surged had a grave impact on Nancy, not only physically but it emotionally and mentally broke her spirit. I had the opportunity to speak with Nancy for a few hours and offer her some emotional support. She told me that I was the first person who had ever validated her initial decision to not do chemo and she was broke to tears when she expressed what it meant to her. The Love from Margot Foundation was able to encourage and provide services for emotional support for Nancy, as well as providing her with a financial grant to help her catch up on her bills, rent and insurance payments.
